Standing up for women’s rights in the 1960’s was revolutionary. Gloria Steinem, an American journalist used her powerful writing and activist skills to make people aware of the inequality between women and men. Beginning with public speaking, writing, and then the creation of Ms. Magazine, Gloria Steinem became an icon for women’s rights. She dedicated her life to the belief that women deserved to be equal to men, and that the world would be improved for both genders if this became the case. Steinem championed equality for women as a social justice issue. She helped to make women more prominent in media and for the first time, Ms. Magazine published women’s journalism without permission from a man in charge.
Over the last forty years, Gloria Steinem has become widely known as a powerful voice of feminism for women everywhere. She was successful then and still today because of her exceptional passion, skill and ability to organize people to stand up for women.
