In the last year, I have been lucky enough to connect with girls from Brazil, Australia, Canada, India, and other G20 nations. We all want many of the same things - a good education, to be safe, and to have an opportunity to succeed.

I only want to grow up in a world where women and men are truly valued as equals. I hope we are the generation that gets there. How about you? Tell me why you think feminism matters and send it to info@gogirlglobal.com

Gloria Steinem, an American journalist used her powerful writing and activist skills to make people aware of the inequality between women and men. Beginning with public speaking, writing, and then the creation of Ms. Magazine, Gloria Steinem became an icon for women’s rights. She dedicated her life to the belief that women deserved to be equal to men, and that the world would be improved for both genders if this became the case. Steinem championed equality for women as a social justice issue. She helped to make women more prominent in media and for the first time, Ms. Magazine published women’s journalism without permission from a man in charge.
Over the last forty years, Gloria Steinem has become widely known as a powerful voice of feminism for women everywhere. She was successful then and still today because of her exceptional passion, skill and ability to organize people to stand up for women. She is the founding mother of feminism in the U.S. and Gloria Steinem we celebrate you at goGIRLglobal to inspire the next generation of a world wide feminist revolution.

Do you wonder what it is like to be a girl in Afghanistan, South Africa, or India? Is it your dream to dive the world’s oceans to discover and protect wild turtles or dolphins, or simply to swim and float like a mermaid? Reading might just be the way to uncover a new passion or vision for your future. Make a promise to yourself - travel the world - through the eyes of a girl.

Even today, girls dress as boys in Afghanistan. Sometimes this is necessary for a families survival. In other cases, it’s due to an old and common tradition, “Bacha Posh” or disguising girls as boys, because the culture values a family with a boy. Why? Read “The Breadwinner.”

Deborah Ellis is a Canadian writer whose beautiful stories will grab you and you won’t want to let go!

Discover, dream, relate, predict, take action - because pages can be passports!

She’s a Girls20Summit delegate, Global Changemaker, and a Brazilian Youth Ambassador - and she just turned 21. We met the charming and butterfly loving Raquel in Paris this fall and again in Boston this spring. goGIRLglobal asked “What is your...
Childhood dream: To become a teacher.
Favorite music: Pretty much anything that makes me dance. I like R&B and folk. Of course, Brazilian music is one of the best!
Favorite movie: This is a hard one. I guess I’ll go with The Lion King.
Favorite artist: Beyonce.
Favorite book: Le Petit Prince, The Little Prince in French.
Biggest life challenge: Growing up without my parents. My mother passed away when I was one and my father passed away when I was four. I was raised by my grandmother and my aunts.
Epic person who inspires me: Jesus, above all. But my grandmother is a great role model to me.
How do you want to better the world: By inspiring people around me to believe in themselves and in other people.
Biggest advice for girls: Don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what people think about you. Invest in your education and in activities that you like. Be yourself and be happy with who you are. There is NOBODY in the world like you. Never forget that =)
I make myself feel good by: Singing and dancing to the songs I like, traveling, drawing, cooking, knitting, watching movies and laughing.
Someday I want to: Become a diplomat and represent my beloved country Brazil.
As a 9 year old girl, Raquel began a decade of volunteering in her community. With great native Portuguese and English language skills and French as her third language, she gained the confidence to travel abroad to continue her community service around the world. Each opportunity opened up more possibilities. She never imagined she would be presenting along with Christine Lagarde or blogging for the Washington Post!

Raquel is currently pursuing her university education, and has spent this year at Mt. Holyoke College in the USA. She will return to Brazil this summer to present her first TEDx in her home city and will continue her work with training young people to build their own local campaigns for gender equality. She hopes to return to Mt. Holyoke to complete her degree.
Raquel decided she would learn to say “butterfly” in every new language she encountered while making friends around the world. She is up to 20!papillon - french
mariposa - spanish 蝴蝶 - chinese
πεταλούδα - greek فراشة - arabic
vlinder - dutch motyl - polish
бабочка - russian balanbaalis - Somalia
Schmetterling - german तितली - hindi
פרפר hebrew
farfalla - italian 蝶 - japanese
fjäril - swedish kelebek - turkish
kupu-kupu - indonesian kipepeo - swahili
butterfly - english titili - kashmiri ( Pakistan)
Put together in eloquent combinations and they can express the most simple to the most complex ideas. Ideas about self. Ideas that communicate. Ideas that define. But what if like me you are not good with words? What if words don’t come easily? What if they fail to come to you when you need them most?

Making images.
Now that speaks to me. The way light falls on a face; on a surface of an object creating reflections and unexpected shadows. The way dust particles float and hang in the air like the words I couldn’t quite grasp. The way colors look deeply saturated in the afternoon or almost grey at dusk. That’s how I communicate.

Light, texture and color – these are my words.
With my camera I can show you what I see. I can show you what it feels like to be me. I can photograph myself and show you what I feel inside; how I see myself. I can photography my environment to show you what I think about it.

Every girl can make images- show the world what is inside you!
You don’t need a fancy camera. Any camera will do. If you don’t have a camera pick up a pencil or a pen and draw. Images are powerful. Create! Show the world what is inside of you!

Learn more about Amanda Blanton
Wanderlust Photo Treks, San Francisco and Amanda Blanton Photography
